Murder Suspect Nabbed, ID Released Of 29-Year-Old Woman Found Dead At Long Island Home

A suspect is in custody days after a woman was found stabbed to death at a Long Island home.

Officers responded to a 911 call for an aided person in Hempstead at a Botsford Street residence on Saturday, Oct. 5, at 8:40 p.m. in Hempstead.

Upon arrival, officers located the 29-year-old woman, now identified as Brenda Guadalupe Alfaro-Alcantara, of Hempstead, in the basement of the home with multiple stab wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Late Monday afternoon, Oct. 7, Nassau County Police announced the arrest of 43-year-old suspect Jose W. Funes-Zabala, of Roosevelt. 

He has been charged with second-degree murder and endangering the welfare of a child. 

He was arraigned on Monday at First District Court in Hempstead.
